Fueled up

“Club Fuel”, a new Saturday program, began for kids in state care group homes in Romania. Many of the children in state care face overwhelmingly poor conditions and little attention. “Club Fuel” will invest in 60 of them, the theme of the program is “Filled up with Jesus”- teaching kids how to fill their lives with Him.

Repairs, insulation, painting and improvements are being made to the children’s homes under new leadership there. Unfortunately, a pipe burst in their intern house while no one was there and wasn’t discovered for two weeks, leaving a wake of mold, destruction and exhausted staff trying to prepare for the interns arrival. Their spirits are tested and their faith is tried, but with the reinforcements of the summer interns and mission teams coming, hope and enthusiasm are growing. Support Romania

Rapid Growth in India

Excitement came with the completion and dedication of the College of Nursing and Paramedical Sciences in Feb 08. This program will provide hope through education to more than 200 students annually, a gift of training that will bring a high return in the lives of the students. This milestone for India Gospel League  is the result of a vision that has lasted for several years.

The outstanding work of Sharon Community College, also funded by IGL, gives poor students the opportunity to take job oriented courses and acquire employment in reputable hospitals, institutions and companies. This investment in the community is at the grassroots level of raising leadership and changing the country.

Hepsibah, one student at Sharon, received the award of Distinction for high academic performance. She recounted that this training helped her and her family break free from the clutches of poverty. Another student, Kanaga, comes from a poor family that could not support her education. The Sharon program provided a hope and future that she would never have had otherwise.

Cyclone in Myanmar

As the news breaks of Cyclone Nargis, 22,000 are confirmed dead and up to one million homeless in the Burma/Myanmar area. We have already received inquiries on what Places of Hope International is doing and how supporters can help.

Places of Hope International has a nine year long relationship with India Gospel League, a children’s home and outreach organization operating in that region. After the 2004 tsunami, we established mechanisms that are still in place for disaster relief. We are NOT collecting supplies or sending teams, but money can be given through the crisis fund of Places of Hope International.

Romania Update

From the staff: Many times when I share what we are doing here with Livada in the lives of the children and all that God is doing, I share the ideas from Isaiah 61: 1-3.  We are preaching good news to the poor, binding up the brokenhearted, proclaiming freedom for the captives, release from the darkness for the prisoners, comforting those who mourn,  offering a crown of beauty instead of ashes, gladness for mourning, praise for despair…

Sometimes it doesn’t sound so spiritual… sometimes it is helping a child with homework, listening to them and telling them stories about your life, taking a child to the dentist who hasn’t been in years, offering counseling to young adults who have graduated from our program and are looking for a new job or apartment. It is planning budgets, helping resolve behavior problems at school, helping a child to understand thankfulness, inviting kids over to your house to watch a movie or spend the night, writing a note to an employee to tell them you noticed they were doing a great job, resolving issues with the landlord of the office, making plans for summer camps and more.

Yes, sometimes my day is spent holding babies, loving on kids and sharing the truth of God’s word.  Help the ministry in Romania.

A note from the India Gospel League director:

On February 16th India Gospel League held “Heart to Heart”, a children’s program involving 9 of our children’s homes.  The children performed in singing, dance, Scripture memory, speech, and gymnastics. It was a great time to show the growth and learning that is taking place at each the homes on a regular basis. Following the program, there was a banquet for the children.

Prayer Requests:
1. Pray for the safe travel of the U.S. teams as they return to America.
2. Pray for the NAIC General Assembly that is taking place this week in Chandrapur.

Praise Requests:
1. Praise God for the lives that are being touched by the Women’s ministry of IGL!
2. Praise the Lord that so many of IGL’s friends and partners could visit us this week.
3. Thank the Lord for the wonderful and talented children in our homes and for the Lord’s continued provision and protection of their lives.

New Peruvian Home

There is a new Peruvian children’s home on the horizon! The Director of our beloved Peruvian home hopes to buy land for a new children′s home in Cusco, Peru. This would allow for more abandoned and neglected children to come under the loving care of the staff and personnel there who are wholly devoted to the kids’ lives.

Because Cusco is so centrally located, a great benefit to potentially building there, it comes with a price. Please help bring more kids out of broken homes by supporting this project.

Daniel, one of the many children at our Romanian home, Livada Orphan Care is one of almost 40 kids that are now able to be sponsored through Places of Hope International. A sponsorship provides for their home, education, meals, healthcare and support. It provides a child the opportunity to dream, to hope.

These children are excited to partner with you and hope to get know their sponsors very well through letters, pictures and maybe even the chance to visit Romania through one of Places of Hope International’s trips.

Do something meaningful. Change a Life.
